Twilight Polo at Green Meadows

I refused to miss out on Twilight Polo at Green Meadows after I won free box seats. I procrastinated until mid-week to ask beg people to come with me.

The drive out to The Plains, Virginia was looooooong! Dave Matthews Band was playing at Nissan Pavilion so traffic was a bitch. We were late. I'm always late. Well usually. Sometimes. Ok 90% of the time.

My friends who were able to make it were there waiting. I felt like shit. We unloaded the wine. My new friend Ellen of Equinox Restaurant stopped by Market Salamander and picked up food. We had a pretty nice spread.

When I noticed our box seats were reserved under my name, I felt special. It doesn't take much.

The first Polo Match had already started. I tried to pay attention but I was so busy socializing, looking around, taking pictures that I wasn't really focused. Our seats were so amazing! Polo at Great Meadows is played on dirt instead of grass which equals fast paced Polo. We got hit by dirt and pebbles countless times.

Once it got dark the bugs came out. And I don't mean out of the closet. Great Meadows is in the middle of nowhere. Surrounded by trees, farms and all that outdoor junk. I don't know what kind of bugs they were but they were everywhere. They landed on our clothes, in our hair, on our table, food and wine. I screamed like a girl. I wasn't the only one. I looked up at the lights that illuminated the field and saw this.

I wanted to leave immediately. I am not and have never been an outside type of person. I don't like to sweat. I don't like bugs. I don't like the humidity. It's not my thing. I decided to stick it out because I was the Host.

I refilled my wine glass and made the best of it. I had a great time with my friends.

I'm very thankful that Mr. Baileywyck offered up his seats while he was on vacation. Mr. Baileywyck owns Baileywyck Shoppes in Middleburg, Virginia. If you are ever in the area and you love Antiques make sure to check them out.

Myrtle Beach Vacay

We had a fab time at Myrtle Beach last week. I haven't been to a lot of beaches in my life but Myrtle Beach is one of my favs. We were last there in 2005. Avoided traffic getting down there and coming back was a plus. It's about a 7-7.5 hour drive but so worth it.

I forgot to book our hotel room at The Dunes. I heard it was a great place to stay for families and I had a sweet deal on a Suite. Too bad I forgot and tried to book the week before. F.A.I.L. It all worked out with a room at The Breakers. We stayed in the North Tower. Our room was too freaking small for four people. I didn't even take a picture of the room because it's embarrassing. We made it work and I got an amazing deal for a last minute booking.

We stayed up late and we slept in. We spent our days at the Beach and afternoons at the Pool & Hot Tubs. We went on a Speed Boat, saw Dolphins, built Sandcastles, stuffed our guts at Captain George's, collected Seashells.

The week flew by and we decided to stay another night. The Breakers was booked so we checked into the Caribbean Resort & Villa. Not the main resort but The Jamaican. We took bets on whether the room would be better or worse than our previous spot. We all voted WORSE. We were right! The separate living room area was nice. We had space to spread out our stuff. The problem was the freaking SMELL!! Mold, Mildew, sweaty gym socks. Take your pick. It was nasty. I Febreezed the hell out of everything but it didn't work. Thankfully we were only there one night.

We procrastinated leaving on Saturday. We hit up a Shoney's for the Breakfast Buffet. Went to Eagles and Wings to get shirts, my obligatory beach magnet (usually a flip-flop but I chose the t-shirt thermometer) and other stuff crap. With the last of our money spent, we hit the road North. It helped that Hurricane Bill dropped a big ass Thunderstorm on us a we left town.

As I used to say in 12th grade when I was the Yearbook Graphic Editor, but had to write some copy: All in all we had a great relaxing time. I enjoyed the time with my kids. I was able to calm down my stressed out brain. The ocean, the air, the sand, center me like nothing else ever has.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from the week.

When you became a big brother, your wish came true for a little sister. You loved her from day one.

You are the only one can that can make her giggle from deep inside her belly. You are an amazing big brother with incredible amounts of patience. Watching you as a big brother has reinforced what I've always known about you. You have a big heart!

Girls Night Out - Wine Tasting

On Thursday night I was invited to a Girls Night Out. I lugged my clothes, makeup and flat iron to work and tried to get purdy in 30 mins. I usually drive into DC but decided to Metro down. I made my way to Equinox Restaurant and climbed aboard the party bus. Chariots for Hire has various size pimped out rides to get you to and from your destination.

Me and Nik

Me & Stacy from Chariots for Hire

I was running late and I'm very thankful the other ladies didn't stone me when I finally got on board. We left DC for Market Salamander in Middleburg Virginia. They do Girls Night Out events with wine and food tasting for about $40 per person. The $40 includes a wine tasting of three red and three white wines, one full glass of wine of your choice and an entry into the raffle.

Me & Elizabeth & Katy - Ready to get the party started

I'm a white wine drinker so I dove right in. The food was good! They had a dinner and dessert entree to sample the wine with. I realized half way through the night I should have been "sampling" the wine. You know how they do it on TV: you smell it, sniff it, take a small sip, swish it around in your mouth. I didn't exactly do that. The first white wine I tried ended up being my favorite. Came home with two bottles.

This is Cameron from Loudon Valley Vineyards. See that yellow bottle? That's my fav wine of the night! The Traminette.

I made my way over to the next table and tried the next selection. The white wine was good but a tad dry for my taste.

Great food, so-so wine

The final tasting had empanadas (LOVE) and a very fruity and floral white wine. I thought I would like it, but I hated it. It tasted like drinking perfume. I tried it with the empanadas and the chocolate mousse tart. Didn't help, it made me feel like a flower.

Flower Power Torrontes - too floral for me

I sampled all three red wines. I can't really comment on those because I don't remember what they tasted like. By the time I finished sampling two of the red wines, it was time for the raffle. This particular GNO had three local Polo Players from Great Meadows. These poor guys tried to describe polo, explain how you play and passed around a mallet and ball. Imagine a room full of gorgeous, buzzed drunk women staring them down and talking about balls! Yeah, it was exactly like that!

Fast forward to the giveaways and guess who won? ME! ME! I won 12 Platinum Box Seats to the August 8th Polo Match. Market Salamander added in a $25 gift card towards tailgate food. Sweet!

Normally I would never ever ever post this picture of myself b/c I hate my profile but it captured the moment perfectly!

Now to pick 10 lucky friends to party with me...

Scared

I'm scared my son will be scared starting Middle School.

I'm scared I won't be able to manage having children in two different schools.

I'm scared I will wake up late and my children will eat Pop Tarts for breakfast. All the time.

I'm scared I'll be irresponsible unreliable and my children will be late to school.

I'm scared I will forget to fund their lunch money accounts and they will have to eat Institutional PB&J.

I'm scared I will not be disciplined enough with homework and reading time.

I'm scared I will not be able to help my son with his homework. Especially Math.

I'm scared I will lose important school forms or turn them in late.

I'm scared I'll let everyone down if I don't fulfill my PTA responsibilities.

I'm scared that no matter what I do, it won't be good enough.

Blogger Faux-Pas

This evening I have committed a multitude of Blogger Faux-pas. I sent out a tweet saying that I was updating my blog and asked for feedback regarding the new layout. I don't think at this point my blog is in competition with yours. I am most definitely not trying to steal readers. I'm just insecure about my choices.

Now I have a half assed blog re-design that is live. My header is gone, my signature is purple which matches my old blog layout. It's just a mess.

Sometimes I'm not the smartest knife in the drawer...I should have just left it alone and put out my post about Girls Night Out on Thursday.
